Self - Guided

Alps + Arrival

From July 17th to July 24th

info@customgetaways.com

This trip is based on 2 people traveling together and sharing a room.

July 17th

The trip starts in Lyon where you will pick-up your rental car.

You will then head for your first hotel which is located in Grenoble which is very convenient for the stages on the 18th and 19th!

This hotel will be "home" for the first 2 nights of your trip.

Beloki, Armstrong, Mayo, Hamilton (2003)

July 18th

The serious Alpine stages start today for the racers. On the menu today ; col d'Izoard - col du Lautaret and Alpe d'Huez.

This is an exciting day and we have planned exciting things... we will give you an excellent trick to avoid the huge traffic and use our “secret” way up Alpe d’Huez....You will be able to be at the very top of the climb if you wish...

Col du Glandon

July 19th

You'll have the option of viewing the race in many places, and we'll be sure to indicate all of your options and how to best get there; col de la Croix de Fer, Start, col du Glandon... so many places make for good viewing today!

Your evening will then be spent in Morzine – host of tomorrow’s Stage Arrival and the next day's departure. You will be able to spend 2 nights in Morzine itself!

July 20h

You're on site, so it will be very easy to simply walk to the arrival to catch the final Mountain stage of this year's Tour de France! Similarly, you'll be able to waist as much time at the arrival... you're walking to your hotel room tonight!

July 21st

You’ll be viewing the start of today’s stage. Starts offer great opportunities for pictures and to mingle with the teams and racers warming up (autographs as well?).

You will then be heading for one of France's greatest wine-region; the Burgundy region.

July 22nd

The final and possibly quite important time trial will likely start around late morning and you should plan on spending the better part of the day at the time trial.

Once the stage is over, you will return the rental car and take a bullet train up to Paris where you will spend the final 2 evenings of this trip.

July 23rd

This is what every professional cyclist aspires to; the arrival of the Tour de France on the Champs-Elysees!

Who will succeed to lance Armstrong? Will it be one of the favorites - Ullrich, Basso, Vinokourov, etc, or will someone else have the honor? We will find out today. But first, a morning bullet train will take us from Dijon to Paris.

You will find out as you watch the arrival on the Champs-Elysees. The race goes up and down the Avenue 10 times. There are also points to be earned for the green jersey.

Once the Tour festivities are over, you will get ready for a great dining experience. This year again we will be renting an entire boat for our dinner-cruise along the Seine river. Great food and unbelievable sight-seeing of Paris by night will end your “sensory overloaded day”!!!
